WE DEVELOPMENT CREDIT UNION

WeDevelopment™ Federal Credit Union’s (WDFCU) mission is to build member and community wealth for residents of the East Side of Kansas City, Missouri.
It’s the result of 13 years of study, fundraising and planning by a group led by Ajamu Webster, president of Kansas City-based DuBois Consultants. Ajamu was appointed by former Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser to study economic development tools that could be used in the most economically distressed areas of Kansas City.
“We found the need because we looked at the wealth of the residents here east of Troost and [said], ‘How could we bring money back into the community, help individuals create their own generational wealth, and restore and revitalize this community,’” said Evans, vice chair of the board of directors for WeDevelopment Federal Credit Union (WDFCU).
The WeDevelopment credit union serves Kansas City residents who live in the area roughly bounded by the Missouri River on the north, 85th Street on the south, Troost Avenue on the west and Interstate 435 on the east. The service area also includes portions of the city’s West side, the Star reported.
Any individual who lives, works, worships, or attends school within those boundaries is eligible to join the credit union.
