Hello, I’m Samuel.
Let me tell you a little about myself.
I am full of quirky contrasts. I am a spiritual director and retired engineer. As such, I appreciate a good spreadsheet, yet much more so, a life of growing and transforming into God’s love. I can be cautious and calculating, yet at the same time, unafraid of delightful contemplative ways of experiencing the love of God.
I deeply appreciate sound Biblical interpretation. Yet, even more so, see that God is more interested in interpreting me, in opening my heart to love. I equally enjoy a deep conversation with pastor, priest, monk, or fellow sojourner. Enjoying various forms of prayer, especially imaginative prayer, is what created my passion for Jesus Stories.
Living and serving many years in various cultures (Egypt, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Indonesia) has given me a unique perspective and appreciation for diverse people. (I still enjoy a good “As-Salaam-Alaikum” or “Selamat Pagi” greeting!)
I have an unquenched curiosity for the first-century culture of Palestine, the unique palette Jesus entered and used to paint for us his wonderfully quirky stories, the parables. His stories are intended to stir our hearts into a better understanding of His nature and of ourselves—like only a story can. The result is we can be love to others.
I enjoy listening for God’s soft voice while either crafting a hopeful wooden treasure or trail running deep into the Colorado mountains. I’m a speaker, mentor, and dedicated husband/father/grandfather.
In short, my heartbeat is basking in God’s infinite love and kindness and bringing others along for the ride.
