Matelot Gulch Mining Co. ™ and Hidden Treasure Gold Mine ™ have been family owned and operated since 1964.
We are on our third generation of the family and plan to keep our love for panning and our gift shop going for many years to come.
The Matelot Gulch Mining shop was built in the mid-1800s and was originally a bee’s keeper cabin. The cabin was originally located on Shaws Flat Road and later transported over 3 miles and relocated to Columbia State Historic Park in the mid-1900s. To this day, the structure remains the only building privately owned in Columbia SHP and has been family owned and operated for over 50 years.
Hidden Treasure Gold Mine was famously known for our underground gold mine tours where you’d travel roughly 800 feet into the hard rock tunnel mine. Over the years the mine has been in operation on and off by our family and is currently closed to the public.
The Matelot Gulch Mining store offers many affordable gifts, jewelry, real, natural gold nuggets, Columbia souvenirs and of course, our panning for gold adventures. Through the years it has grown to be one of the most popular stores in Columbia State Historic Park.
