INTERNATIONAL LONGSHORE & WAREHOUSE UNION SOUTHERN
The SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DISTRICT COUNCIL coordinates legislative and political issues for the ILWU in a territory that stretches from Fresno to San Diego and includes the busiest port complex in America, the twin ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
The workers represented by ILWU locals in the SCDC’s territory include the longshore workers who discharge cargo, marine clerks who track the flow of cargo, marine foremen who oversee the safe conduct of business on the docks, port guards and watchmen, the office clerical workers transacting business on marine terminals, inland boat operators, the port pilots who guide in ocean-going vessels, the Rio Tinto borate miners in Boron and borax workers on Terminal Island.
