CITIZENS COMMITTEE FOR THE LAKEWOOD ANIMAL SHELTER

Citizens Committee for the Lakewood Animal Shelter, supports the city run Lakewood Animal Shelter as a separate, not-for-profit organization.
The underlying mission of CCLAS is to improve and protect the lives of Lakewood’s pet population. By providing financial and volunteer resources to the Lakewood Animal Shelter, CCLAS aids in the adoption of abandoned animals including, but not limited to, cats and dogs. CCLAS also supports the well being of animals during their stay at the shelter. Through foster and spay/neuter programs, fundraising, and adoption events, CCLAS interacts with the Lakewood community to promote education and advocacy regarding the shelter and responsible pet ownership.
Over thirty five years ago, Lakewood did not have a shelter, so the original “citizens” got together to petition the City of Lakewood to provide a place for stray, abandoned, and neglected animals, and raised the funds necessary to open the shelter. In 1984, CCLAS registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. CCLAS works side-by- side with the city and shelter staff to increase the health and well-being of the homeless animals at the shelter. CCLAS is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes.
