MEET BOB CARTER
Bob Carter is a South Florida native who went to Palm Beach High School, and worked at the new Royal Poinciana Playhouse as a teen. He fell in love with acting early, doing his first play in the first grade, and appearing in school plays into high school, including Brigadoon, with George Hamilton in his junior year. When he graduated from high school, Bob moved to New York to study his craft, and was selected to join Lee and Paula Strasberg’s acting studio. It was not uncommon for Bob to sit in class with students such as Jane Fonda and Marilyn Monroe. He also later attended classes led by Stella Adler, Sanford Meisner, Robert Lewis and Uta Hagen.
Throughout his time at the Royal Ponciana Playhouse and in New York, Bob worked with such talents as Vincent Price, Helen Hayes, Michael Epps, Richard Rogers, Julie Stein, Zsa Zsa and Ava Gabor, Eartha Kitt, Barbara Harris, Christopher Hewitt, and Burt Reynolds. One of his fondest memories is as a stand-in for Christopher Plummer, when Bob spent a week on set with the incredible Bette Davis.
When a family event drew him back to South Florida, Bob was asked to direct his first play. He loved the experience, and after receiving strong reviews, he set off on a completely new aspect of his work in theatre.
In 1980, Bob established Bob Carter’s Actor’s Workshop and Repertory Theatre (Actor’s Rep) in West Palm Beach. He cultivated Actor’s Rep to create an institution known for avant-garde and classical productions, and actor training classes for all ages and skills.
