ANTIGO COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY
In May of 2012, four pantries formerly located in churches were combined to form the Antigo Community Food Pantry. Those church pantries were: Faith United Church of Christ, SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic, Seventh-Day Adventist and St. John Catholic Church. In February 2015, ACFP partnered with Langlade Hospital and moved into our current facility at 2120 Progress Blvd. In the spring of 2015, Operation Compassion, a Christian-based food pantry in Antigo merged their resources with the Antigo Community Food Pantry allowing a more efficient service to our community.
ACFP is a volunteer-run organization with one full-time paid manager. Operation of the food pantry takes approximately 10,000 volunteer hours annually. Of these volunteers, there is a Steering Committee who works with the pantry manager to oversee the day-to-day operations at the pantry and a board of directors consisting of business people and community members who meet quarterly.
Pantry food is obtained through community donations via food drives, as well as private donors, local potato growers and farmers. The Antigo Community Garden, McDougal’s Farm LLC, and Antigo Farmers’ Market, Inc. contribute in the summer months, with produce donated year-round by the Salvation Army. Bakery is received from Antigo Bakery, Kwik Trip, Walmart and Pick N Save. Local businesses that donate food on a regular basis are: Walmart, Lakeside, Little Caesar’s, Kwik Trip, The Country Store, Canopy Gardens, and The Neighbors Place. However, the majority of food is purchased through Feeding America at a member’s discount, local grocery stores including Sentry Foods, Pick N Save, Natural Living, Dollar Tree, Walmart, Lakeside, and in Wausau at Aldi’s.
