AMITY HERITAGE SOCIETY
“The Amity Heritage Society is rebuilding the 1773 Peter Jones house in a beautiful rural setting in the national historic village of Trexler, Berks County. This site was acquired through a cooperative effort with the Albany township supervisory board. A perfect location, this site has many advantages that allow the society to accomplish its goal of creating an excellent learning environment. There are also many like-minded organizations in close proximity to the site that align with the purpose of the educational center, including Albany Township Historical Society, W.K. & S Historic Rail Line, and the Kempton Fairgrounds.
Why this project matters:
The purpose of the PJHCEC is to focus on the preservation and conservation of our natural and historic resources; this vision is one that has been a common refrain that is indelible in Berks County’s culture. The relevant educational programming that we will present is to connect the lessons and wisdom of the past to the issues and challenges of the present so that we can continue to maintain our quality of life well into the future.
Details of the current progress of our project:
During the month of June, we have completed the footings and foundation of the building. Currently, we are framing the building and installing the roof. It is our goal to complete this work by the end of June. We will continue to update the reconstruction process as the PJHCEC project continues. The progress that we have made on this project has been due to the tremendous kindness and generosity of many Berks County businesses and contractors.
