A BETTER CHANCE PRESCHOOL

As is well known, most development of the human brain takes place before the age of five; thus, these early years represent a very important learning period. A Better Chance school program takes place in a building specially designed to optimize the educational development of each individual child. The school practices positive reinforcement, along the lines of the Montessori method of teaching.
“Help me do it myself” was the reaction Maria Montessori received from countless children. The keys to successful teaching are knowing how to observe and when to help. Children who benefit from high-quality child care display better cognitive and language development, school readiness, and early school achievement. The child’s many questions are given authoritative answers, open-ended questions, and the child is aided in the process of researching his or her questions. Each child is encouraged and given careful attention to personal hygiene and safety. The children learn self-respect as well as being respectful and courteous to others, leading to self-fulfillment. Good citizenship is rewarded.
We also feature “Second Step” which has recently emerged as a leader among violence prevention programs. The second step uses a friendly, multi-sensory approach to teach children to empathize with others, control anger, and constructively deal with problems. The emphasis on language skill development supports early education teaching goals. Appealing puppets teach children to “slow down, stop, and think.” Empathy, impulse control, and anger management are skills that children will use immediately and throughout their lives.
The school opens at 7:00 am; the class begins at 9:00 am. Arrangements may be made in advance to meet your needs. In addition to pre-planned activities, the children select a daily topic based on group discussion. Parents are welcome to observe and even participate in their children’s activities. The program is balanced to ensure each child’s success in the goals of the curriculum. All activities are designed to engage the children’s attention and enthusiasm.
We also provide full-spectrum lighting fixtures called Vita-Lights which help increase productivity.
