BORDERCITY FIRE DEPARTMENT

 Fire Departments

The Border City Fire Department is located in Upstate New York between Geneva, New York and Waterloo (town), New York. The Border City fire district consists of the Town of Waterloo on the west side of Brewer Road and the northwest portion of the Town of Fayette. This district covers approximately 3,500 people over a 20-square-mile (52 km2) area. The Border City Fire Department runs an average of 150-200 calls per year. Last year, BCFD ran a total of 208 calls for service.

The department isĀ 100% volunteer with approximately 50 volunteers. All new members must be voted into the department after they apply and they must attend the basic training in order to be considered as a full member.

The Border City Fire Department was established in 1908 and was originally named Border City Hose Company. In 1950 the Serven Volunteer Fire Company was established because of the heavy train traffic and due to this problem, there was a fatal house fire. That’s when a Border City resident named Mr. Serven built and donated the Serven Firehouse, and with both companies, the department was renamed the Border City Fire Department.
