 Farming

Clark Farms is a fifth-generation family farm located in the mountains of Fulton County Pennsylvania. Clark Farms started as a partnership between father and son, Jack M and Jack A. It started small with a few Quarter Horses; the cow program had been in the family for several generations. With strong family values and a lot of hard work, Clark Farms has grown to what it is today!

Jack M and Lois are parents of 4 children, three girls, and one boy: Beth, Bobbi, Kristi, and Jack, all of whom helped on the farm or at the construction company Kee-ta Quay. When Jack M passed away, Jack A and his mother Lois became partners. Lois is a big part of the day-to-day activities as is Jack and his family. From rounding up cattle on horseback, checking mares at foaling and breeding season, driving a tractor to bale hay, or answering the phones in the office, everyone helps out. Jack has four children: Falon, Jackie, Carlisle, and Laramie, all of whom have their share of responsibilities. The children showed a lot of cattle and horses and have been very successful over the years. Bobbie’s son Wyatt Fix is actively involved in the farm operations and works closely with Jackie and Carlisle overseeing the cattle program.

We breed registered Foundation Bred American Quarter Horses, registered Red and Black Angus Cattle, and commercial cow/calf pairs. The Quarter Horses are used for the cattle operation and all are descendants of the “Old Cow Bred Foundation Sires”, King, Old Sorrel, Leo, and Three Bars with the modern lines of Doc Bar, Docs Hickory, Dry Doc, Mr. San Peppy and Peppy San Badger. The goal of our operation has always been to produce a sound, solid, good-minded athlete with the ability for everyone in the family to ride and enjoy. The Buckskin, Dun, and Palomino color is just an added attraction.

One of the most enjoyable things to us is to hear and see what people have done with our horses and to hear those families say “This horse is not for sale at any price!”. It makes you feel like you’ve accomplished a goal. A lot of our program is based on Crago-bred horses from South Dakota. They say everything happens for a reason and for us to meet and deal with them out of everyone in this country; has been a blessing. The horses and the people are outstanding! Two of the horses that have really affected our program are “Beckwith Dun” a Red Dun out of Sugar Bars x King stallion and “Docs Decathalon” a Buckskin out of Dry Doc x Poco stallion. In this part of the country few people know of Beckwith Dun. In the Dakotas, his offspring have accomplished almost everything. CON (Center of the Nation) Superhorse, AQHA Team Penning Reserve World Champion, South Dakota Team Penning Champion, the list goes on. I think one of our strongest assets, is the broodmares. Outstanding mares and consistent breeders.  Regardless of what they are bred to, the colts are exceptional as they are all full of Natural Cow instincts and the desire to work. Again the color is just a bonus. As one man put it, “Every Beckwith bred horse will nod, bob and rattle your reins (and tickle your butt as they turn around).” I think anyone who ever rode one will agree.
