MARCO POLO BUILDERS
Home
Marco Polo Builders was founded by Marko and Katica Pavicic in 1977 after they immigrated to America from Croatia. Marko worked in construction in France and Italy, and marveled at the intricacies and craftsmanship of European architecture; however, the greater marvel was a pursuit of American ideals in a nation of possibilities. Together, he and his wife, Katica, moved to New York and then Ocala, Florida. They enthusiastically began Marco Polo Builders and knew no restraints. They worked diligently, learning every step of each trade; not just from book knowledge, but doing the hard work themselves: from grading, slab work, roofing, to flooring. Their dedication, perseverance, old fashioned work ethic, and high standards for craftsmanship yielded a successful company that has flourished over four decades.
In 2005, Marko unexpectedly passed away. His presence was a great void to his family, employees, subcontractors, and numerous customers. To this day, people recall his larger than life personality, his high expectations that were tempered with not expecting anything from anyone that he had not or would not do himself. His wife, Katica, being a force to reckon with in her own right, did not throw in the towel on Marco Polo Builders after her husband’s passing. She was, after all, equally responsible for the company’s success, always has been a partner with equal vision and numerous giftings of her own. She continued to operate Marco Polo Builders through wisdom and a tenacious work ethic. Forty-one years after its origin, she works with the same vigor, determination, and high standards that were the foundation of Marco Polo Builders at its inception decades prior.
