In 1978 the Baras Foundation first responded to the needs of children. The Baras Foundation was founded as a public benefit non-profit foundation with Federal 501(c)(3) status. Since then, the foundation has helped lonely, scared, and depressed children with the 291-KIDS telephone call-in storyline. Receiving as many as 31,000 calls a month, the project needed to expand to meet increasing demand.
