Ogdensburg Catholics, the website for St. Mary's Cathedral and Notre Dame Church of Ogdensburg, NY
St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish–comprised of St.Mary’s Cathedral and Notre Dame Church–joyfully invites the people of our “Maple City” to the journey of faith through the proclamation of the Gospel, the Celebration of the Eucharist and the Sacraments, and the loving service of neighbor.
Ogdensburg was dedicated to Our Lady from its very beginning, when in 1748 Father Francois Piquet established an Indian Fort that he named La Présentation at the juncture of the St. Lawrence and Oswegatcie Rivers. He celebrated the first solemn Mass on the site where Notre Dame Church now stands on the Feast of the Holy Trinity, June 1, 1749. The town that grew up around La Présentation became Ogdensburg, and the church was first incorporated as “Notre Dame de la Victoire” in 1859. The first St. Mary’s Chapel was dedicated in 1827.
